How often should I update my Facebook page(s)?

The answer to the question is – 42.

OK, seriously…it depends – but my rule of thumb is no more than 5 times a day and preferably spaced apart.

One of the first Facebook pages I ever set up, I had configured an RSS feed to auto-post to the page from a very active website. The result was that on some days, 10-20 posts would occur. At first I thought, ‘Cool…the Facebook page fans are going to love this!’. That is, until someone politely complained that, while they enjoyed the content, it was flooding their news feed and they threatened to ‘unlike’ the page.

Since then, I’ve followed my rule of thumb and there have not been any more complaints about flooded news feeds.

How about you? How often do you update your Facebook page(s)?
