At the close of the Middle-East Synod this past weekend, Pope Benedict XVI announced that the theme for the next Synod of Bishops would be ‘New Evangelization’.
The Pope made the announcement today at the closing Mass of the Special Assembly for the Middle East of the Synod of Bishops, and repeated it before praying the Angelus at midday with those gathered in St. Peter’s Square.
The next Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops will be held in 2012, and will be dedicated to the theme “The New Evangelization for the Transmission of the Christian Faith,” the Pontiff said.
For us ‘techies’, this promises to be a great way to merge Pope John Paul II’s initial vision with recent developments by the Vatican in terms of embracing new technology in communication efforts. Really, it’s a match made in Heaven, and I’m excited to see the groundwork being laid for something that could have profound effects on the Church for many years.
